Attorney Woo is deeply passionate about whales and aquatic life. Additionally, she consistently expresses concern for environmental concerns and social justice in her cases and personal struggles.
She is surrounded by friends who understand her strengths and admire her intelligence, often helping to provide solutions to cases others miss.
1. They’re not compatible
Attorney Young Woo cares deeply for her friends, colleagues and family. Although she doesn’t express it directly or verbally, she still shows love in different ways. After handling her ninth case defending a mentally handicapped girl accused of sexual abuse she becomes emotionally overwhelmed and loses confidence; Joon Ho reminds her that just like cats and their owners they may not always show affection but still care deeply for each other.
Min-woo uncovers more evidence to back his hypothesis that Attorney Young Woo is actually her father’s daughter. Attempting to persuade her of this fact fails; Min-woo also provided supporting documents hoping they would help convince Young Woo, but she refused them on grounds of confidentiality.
2. They don’t share the same values
Extraordinary Attorney Woo is an alternative take on Boston Legal that chronicles the daily experiences of a junior lawyer at her own firm. While she possesses an impressive legal mind, her fascination with dolphins and tendency to speak without thinking can sometimes prove distracting to those around her.
However, she shows how her quirks distinguish her as an attorney. She remains committed to her clients despite their challenges; and her moral code and passion for justice inspire those around her.
This show embraces neurodiversity, making a welcome change from other legal dramas that focus on more conventional characters. However, it should be noted that some negative symptoms of autism such as echolalia and noise/touch sensitivities are depicted. However, this is done in an ethical and respectful manner.
3. They don’t have the same interests
Extraordinary Attorney Woo has inspired conversations about autism representation on screen and serves as an important reminder that disability doesn’t define its victims – rather, its primary character represents someone who struggles with her abilities, yet strives to do her best work regardless.
She recognized the significance of not only developing legal knowledge but also honing practical abilities, and actively sought opportunities to gain hands-on experience in different legal environments. Eventually she joined Hanbada Law Firm where she proved that with determination and help from those around them, people with disabilities can succeed in the workplace.
Though some senior lawyers initially underestimate her capabilities, she soon finds a steadfast supporter in her supervisor and legal support staffer Lee Jun-ho. Together they tackled Hanbada Law Firm’s most complex cases together – such as when one mentally disabled girl’s mother made up a false story against her boyfriend for child abuse.
4. They don’t have the same goals
Extraordinary Attorney Woo, one of Korea’s newest hit K-dramas, has made headlines due to its portrayal of a disabled lawyer. Aimed at raising autism awareness while simultaneously sidestepping K-drama cliches, Extraordinary Attorney Woo is making waves across Asia with its representation.
Young-woo’s cases often present complex legal and ethical questions that would stump most attorneys, yet she is adept at handling them with her unique perspective and solving them swiftly and successfully.
At the same time, she finds it impossible to fully recognize all of the telltale signs that her clients are lying; this eventually leads to their divorce; his focus was always more on his work than her and this became very frustrating to her; ultimately she decided it wasn’t sustainable and decided she couldn’t stay together with him and broke up.
5. They don’t have the same goals for their future
This show was truly courageous and groundbreaking in its depiction of autistic characters, shifting perceptions among viewers while providing a voice for those who hadn’t had one before.
Young-woo’s ninth case was one of her toughest yet, involving allegations of sexual abuse against a mentally disabled girl. Although there were telltale signs that Young-woo was representing someone lying to them, she took on this case believing it was part of her duties as an attorney to represent everyone equally.
Joon Ho was initially angered at her for moving on so quickly, but she explained it was simply how her mind works. They likened their relationship to that between a cat and its owner where affection may not always return but nevertheless love remains strong between both parties despite any apparent discrepancies between their emotions.
